Attracted to the whimsical and envisioning dreamlike realities, Sally Caldwell Fisher illustrates
rural American country life with a charming simplicity which includes favorite locations in her
life and fond memories of trips off shore and 'down East.' Her paintings are imbued with
spirited wit and all have a story to tell, some with humor and some with contrasting narrative;
however, all elements are present in each painting to decipher the tale.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Caldwell Fisher attributes much of the humor she
cherishes to the special bond she shares with her four brothers and sisters and, indeed,
relationships among figures tell the story in many of her paintings. After graduating from the
University of Michigan in 1972, the artist moved to New England where she discovered an
affinity for the America sea and shore that she has explored ever since."Each of the images I
paint is for me a process of discovery. In every one there is the evocation of a story. It gives me
the greatest joy to infuse these tales with a bit of humor. Above all, I have a true affection and
great respect for my subject matter."
The artist firmly believes in "...following what is in my heart, for I know that when one
is truly willing to trust in the future, dreams do become reality." During the past ten years,
Caldwell Fisher has received considerable recognition for her painterly storytelling with her
work included in prominent private and museum collections across the country, most notably
The White House and The Smithsonian Institution.
